This past week, Kory and I went on a Disney Cruise. It was soooo nice and relaxing! I even got to add another runDisney Race to my list--the Castaway Cay 5k! It was rough coming back to real life and heading to work on Friday. But the countdown is on for summer vacation. And from Saturday to Saturday, I ran 3 races...the most I've ever run in a week's time frame. It was fun!
Tuesday- Castaway Cay 5k (not sure if it was a true 5k and estimating time at 30:30)
Thursday- 4 miles in 41:43 (Mile 1:9:53, Mile 2: 10:30, Mile 3: 10:36, Mile 4: 10:46, average pace: 10:26)
Saturday- Dawn Brancheau Foundation Dream Big 5k (recap coming soon)- 3:04 miles in 30:08
Total miles this week: 10.14
Total miles in 2013: 134.07
Total miles: 563.14

Race #24--Castaway Cay 5k-- April 9, 2013
When we were first deciding which cruise to sign up for, I picked the 4 day Disney Dream because I wanted to run the Castaway Cay 5k. Yes, maybe a silly reason but I wanted to check off another runDisney race off my list!
The boat was docked at Castaway Cay on Tuesday. Monday night we got the Navigator, the daily schedule, for the next day. We were to meet at Evolution lounge at 8:15am. Kory was going to run it with me (he's never run with me before! He ran before we started dating and ran the WDW Marathon shortly after we started dating and then stopped running. So besides all the sports he plays, he hasn't run in over 6 years.) Another friend couple was running with us. Natalie ran the Princess Half Marathon, but Rafael had never run a race. What a race to choose as your first one!
We met in the lounge at 8 to make sure we weren't late. There ended up being a good amount of runners there. I'm HORRIBLE at estimating but maybe 60-75ish runners? There was a wide variety of runner types--super competitive to walkers. They showed us a map of where we were running. We were to run down to the bike path, run the circle bike bath, down the air strip, back to the bike path, around it again, then back to the starting line. I had read on the Disboards that it could be confusing so I tried to pay as much attention as I could. Then we got in line to get our bibs.
After everyone got their bibs, we headed out. I had to get my pre-race picture of course. And one with Kory since I doubt that'll ever happen again! Oh, and yes, I'm one of THOSE girls. I have to have a cute new outfit for each race. (what's wrong with wanting to have fun while running?). And I had picked up the perfect island running outfit at the Princess Half Expo--the Mermaid shirt and skirt by Raw Threads. Love it!!
I had read two good bits of advice about the 5k shirts that you can buy. One was to buy it before the 5k since sometimes they have a very limited supply, especially in the smaller sizes. So I did that right away. They had no smalls, 2 mediums, and only a couple of large and extra larges. I asked them if they had any smalls and they said no so I went ahead and bought a medium. The second bit of advice was to go back later to check sizes. So I checked again that afternoon, and sure enough, they had 2 smalls!!! So I exchanged my medium for a small. If you do want a shirt, I would definitely buy one in the morning and if they don't have your size, make sure to check again in the afternoon. And please excuse the wrinkled mess of the shirt. I forgot to take a picture of the shirt until just now and it's been crammed in my bag.
Then the race started! This was probably the toughest 5k I've run yet. Strictly because the GPS wasn't working on my phone and there were no mile markers so I had absolutely no idea how fast I was going our what my pace was. Rafael shot off. Kory took off pretty fast and I tried to keep up with him. My goal was to try to run the whole 5k but I went out too fast. Boo! I had to tell Kory to go ahead without me and at 10 minutes, I stopped and started my 2min run:1 min walk intervals.
By the time I got done with the circle bike path the first time, this 14 year old girl came flying past me headed back into the circle for her second time. So fast. And Rafael was right behind her! Right at the turn around point, I caught up with Kory. We ran together for a couple of minutes, back into the bike path. But then he tired out and I continued running my pace without him.
Luckily most of the race path was well marked. There was one point that I got confused on which way to go, along with two other guys. We all stopped, looked around and then decided to try one way together. It turned out to be the right one. Rafael said that he and the girl took a wrong turn. They went down this turn towards a fishing dock. When they turned back around to go the right way, the girl took off. At this point a couple of other guys passed Rafael. The girl ended up getting first place and Rafael ended up getting ninth. Not bad for his first race.
I was the second one of our little group to finish. I forgot to stop my phone after I crossed the finish line, but after I got my medal and went to sit next to Rafael, it said 30:57 so I'm estimating I crossed at about 30:30. This was a new race PR for me of about 1 minute and 4 seconds (if it was a true 5k). Yay! AND I beat Kory!! He finished about 5 minutes after me. We hung around and cheered for Natalie to get her medal.
And speaking of which, yes the medal is plastic (even cheaper than the ones you get during regular runDisney 5ks) but I was so excited that we actually got one! It will be hanging proudly on my medal rack.
I had lots of fun and will definitely do it again when we go on our next Disney cruise!

Ready for the Race--Dawn Brancheau Foundation Dream Big 5k
Cori and I picked up our race packets for the Dawn Brancheau Foundation Dreak Big 5k. This is the third year they've held the race in honor of the whale trainer who was killed (and we've run it each time). We like running through Sea World.
We got a bumper sticker and coupon for 50% off a one-day Sea World ticket (which I forgot to take a picture of ) along with the tshirt.

When we got there and signed our waivers, they were giving out the race bibs from three piles on the table. Cori got number 62 and I got 239. I asked if I could get the one after her since that's probably the lowest race bib number I'd ever get. They laughed and said of course. So I'm number 63.
Our outfits are ready to go. The alarm is set for 6:10 and the race starts at 7:30.

Weekly Recap- March 25- April 7, 2013
This week was up and down. On Monday, at softball, I get hit in the knee with a ball. I was rounding second, running to third and the shortstop through the ball in to the third basemen and hit me in the knee. The first thing I remember thinking was "oh no, not my bad knee!". Yup. It hit my knee that I just got done with physical therapy for. It hurt so bad. My friend who was the third base coach was trying to make me laugh because he knew that I didn't want to cry. My eyes were welled up with tears and you could hear it in my voice. They all crowded around me and asked if I wanted to sit out but I said no. So much pain though. You could see the stiches from the softball imprinted on my knee. 5 days later, it still swollen and turning yellowish-green. I'm not limping anymore, thankfully. But it's not pretty. And I didn't run all week. I had a 5k today and I wasn't sure I was going to be able to run. Luckily, it only bothered me when we were running down the ramps.
Then on Tuesday, I did the scariest thing I've done so far in my short running career. I signed up for the WDW Marathon!!! What did I get myself into?? I'm hoping with training it will all go okay!
Then today I had the Color Me Rad 5k which was a lot of fun. Today the hubby and I are headed off on a Disney Cruise. I am so excited. And can't wait to run in the Castaway Cay 5k on Tuesday!
Monday-- softball
Saturday--Color Me Rad 5k (we're not sure of the milage or the time. We're guessing it was 2.75ish and 32ish minutes)
Total miles this week:3
Total miles in 2013: 123.93
Total Miles: 553

Race #23- Color Me Rad 5k-- April 6, 2013
Cori and I have been wanting to to run in a color run for a while, ever since one of our friends did one up in Virginia. So when we saw the Color Me Rad 5k for Orlando, we knew we wanted to do it. Unfortunately, we procrastinated too long and it sold out! Then last week I checked the site and saw that there was one in Jacksonville for this weekend. Since my parents live right outside Jax, and I had to drop Bella off since we were going on the cruise, we decided to sign up!
It took us a while, but we finally came up with the team name of Rainbow Connection (since I love when they play that at Jellyrolls). But honestly, I didn't see our team name ANYWHERE. Oh well. Cori loves to make bows and since we didn't want to wear a Sweatyband so it wouldn't get messed up, she made us a Kermit one. Of course we had to wear white so we got a white shirt (that was too see through so we also got a green tank top for underneath) and green pants.
We weren't able to make it in time to pick up our race packets on Friday, so thankfully my dad picked it up for me. We got a cute shirt, sunglasses and a RAD tattoo (which I forgot to get a picture of).
We set our alarms for 6am. I didn't sleep well because Bella was antsy all night looking for Kory since he stayed at home. Finally we left at 6:30 with my dad and headed downtown. Unfortunately, on the way, we saw a horrible accident. A car had flipped. So scary.
It was freezing outside! We hadn't planned for that! We are used to Disney races, which are really crowded, and this one was pretty empty, comparatively. We were supposed to run in the 8:20 wave, but we asked if we could go in the first one and they didn't have any problems with it.
We were all nice and clean before the race.
We lined up and the guy spoke on the speaker some, trying to get the group pumped up. The people in the very front could hear him, but we couldn't tell what he was saying. They threw some free things like shirts and hats out and threw some color things into the air but we didn't get any on us. At eight, they started the race, but after a small group went, they stopped the rest of us. We guess they only let small groups go at a time so everyone gets a lot of color. About 5 minutes later, we took off.

We ran into the stadium, thinking we were going onto the field. Nope, we were running up the ramp! So we think, okay, one ramp's not bad...then two's not too bad...then nope, we're walking. I think there were six ramps up. And we ran up one side, then down, then back up the other side! So up 12 ramps! I was not prepared for that and you could hear a lot of people commenting on it. And there wasn't any color during those parts because they didn't want to get the stadium dirty.
Then after we went down the second time, we got to go on the field. It was so neat! My family has had Jaguars season tickets since the franchise started so it was neat to see it from this view. On the field, they had these things that looked like the things that bug exterminators have. In it was green paint (or it was wet anyways). We got our first color! Then we ran through the practice field. Another really neat thing to see! The course was really pretty empty--so empty, that we found my dad standing on the side of the course all by himself. So we ran up to him for a picture.
There were several more areas like this. I remember during the purple one, there was so much paint in front of me that I couldn't see at all and hoped that no one was in front of me. I know some people had mentioned breathing the powder in being a problem, but we just held our breath and were fine.
And then we rounded a corner and it was over. There was no big notice that it was the finish and we noticed afterwards that the big blow up arch thingy says finish on the wrong side.
At the end, you can pick up one powder packet so I got pink and Cori got blue. We decided to through it up in the air for a little fun. My dad got it on video.
Notice where Cori aimed her powder...right at my face!
And don't mind me trying to tell my Dad to turn off the camera at the end of this one
We were COVERED in paint!
Shoe shot!
Cori's face looked like confetti (see below). Mine didn't look that bad.
Overall, it was fun but we wouldn't do it again. For one thing, we're pretty sure that it was less than 3.1 miles. But we have no clue since there were no mile markers at all. Nor was there any kind of clock. I know it's a fun race but it would still be nice to have. We figured that we took about 32 minutes to run it (we know the race started at 8, and we think that our group had to wait about 5 minutes to start. Then after we finished, we finally found a guy who was wearing a watch and he said it was 8:38). And while we normally run a 32 minute 5k, we walked way more at the beginning due to the ramps that we normally do. We did like that the course wasn't so crowded. It was nice not to have to bob and weave or have people running over you. But it just seemed a little--chaotic and unorganized. We're glad we did it once though!

We took off for some more paint (This is where a girl through a huge handful at Cori--the rest of the paint was powdery).

Recipe- Creamed Chicken and Biscuits
I have no idea where I found this recipe--it's been in my box for a while!
Creamed Chicken and Biscuits
Ingredients:
~ 2 cups cooked chicken, diced
~10oz package frozen mixed vegetables
~10 3/4 oz can cream of chicken soup
~1/2 cup milk
~1/2 tsp poultry seasoning
~1/4 tsp pepper
~6 oz tube refrigerated biscuits, baked
Directions:
1) Combine all ingredients except biscuits in a medium or large saucepan
2)Simmer over medium heat for 20 minutes, until heated through and vegetables are tender
3) To serve, spoon over split biscuit halves.
So very, very easy. I cheated and bought the Tyson cooked chicken pieces that's in the refrigerated section. And I served it Country Crock loaded mashed potatoes. Kory actually said how good it was without me having to ask if he liked it or not, so that's always my indication that he really likes it!

What did I get myself into??
Well, I did it! I signed up for the Walt Disney World Marathon! Actually Kristin (a mom on the run) did it for me while I was at work--thank you! I'm so nervous yet excited!
I need to figure out what training plan I am going to use. For my 10 miler and Half Marathons, I've always used the Jeff Galloway program and loved it. I'm just not sure that I can run 20 miles or more 3 times. Plus it doesn't work with the 3 half marathons and 10 miler that I have planned.
Right now I am thinking the Hal Higdon Novice 2 Marathon plan. It seems to fit well with the races that I have planned (only having to switch up 2 weekends). It runs 4 times a week, instead of the the three I'm used to. I like giving my legs a rest between running days, but I'm guessing that maybe this is what I need to get ready for 26.2. His plan only takes you up to 20 miles one time. I'm just scared that it might not be enough.
Any insight on which plan to use?
